SIMULATOR-BASED SHIP HANDLING AND NAVIGATION

AUDIENCE

The training is designed for officers called upon to ship handling or have the responsability of the ship (Chief Officer, Master, etc.)

PREREQUISITES

Hold at least a Chief Officer CoC.

OBJECTIVES

  • Acquire additional competencies on how to effectively manage a ship in various weather and port conditions
  • Improve ship handling skills

Theoretical principles of ship handling:

  • Balancing positions
  • Principles of use of a ship equipped with a single shaftline with fixed blades driven by a slow diesel or two shaftlines with steerable blades driven by a semi-fast engine or propulsion by azimuth thrusters
  • Swinging capacity
  • Ship’s ability to stop

Harbour handling with/without wind and with/without current
Shallow water handling
River handling
Interactions between passing ships
Bank effects
Handlings with tugs
Sea-lock handlings
Mooring on a buoy
Ship to ship
Influence of the human factor in ship handling :
