Merchant marine officers are destined to work on commercial ships, some with international crews, across all oceans and seas of the world to transport goods, convey passengers, or carry out specific tasks such as laying cables or supporting offshore installations. ENSM offers several training programs to become a merchant marine officer.
First Class Officer / Engineer
First Class Officers are intended to perform the highest functions at the bridge and in the engine room as captain or chief engineer on all types of commercial ships without limitations on tonnage or power. They manage the ship’s crew, are responsible for safety, and coordinate activities on board.
The navigating specialty allows for the attainment of internationally recognized maritime certificates.

Engine Watchkeeping Officer / Chief Engineer 8000kW
The Engine Watchkeeping Officer training prepares for the role of engineering officer and then chief engineer on board commercial ships.The sectors of activity are numerous on different types of ships:
- Cargo ships such as container ships, oil tankers, gas carriers, roll-on/roll-off ships, bulk carriers
- Passenger ships such as ferries, cruise ships, private yachts
- Service and maritime works ships such as cable layers, tugs, support vessels for platforms
- Oceanographic research vessels.
International Bridge Watchkeeping Officer / Captain 3000
Upon completion of the International Bridge Watchkeeping Officer training, the sectors of activity are numerous on different types of ships:
- Cargo ships: container ships, oil tankers, gas carriers, roll-on/roll-off ships, bulk carriers
- Passenger ships: ferries, cruise ships, private yachts
- Service and maritime works ships: cable layers, tugs, support vessels for offshore platforms
- Oceanographic research vessels.
