QHSE Manager (M/F)

CHESS Maritime is a boutique ship management company operating across all types of vessels and offering a comprehensive range of services, from technical management and QHSE to crew management.

As part of the expansion of its teams, CHESS Maritime is recruiting a QHSE Manager (M/F).
Reporting to the Managing Director and working closely with the technical and crewing departments, you will be responsible for all regulatory aspects relating to the Company and will play a central role in managing the safety, security and compliance of the vessels under management

Key Responsibilities
· Assume the official responsibilities of MLC Officer, DPA and CSO whilst complying with international regulatory standards (ISM, ISPS, MLC).
· Ensure the validity of documents and regulatory compliance of vessels (certificates, emergency plans, ISPS procedures, SOPEP, etc.).
· Prepare, conduct and follow up on internal and external audits (administrations, classification societies, charterers).
· Manage incidents, coordinate investigations, and maintain communication with P&I insurers.
· Oversee the training and integration of senior officers within the company’s Safety Management System (SMS).

· Organise and lead safety and security drills and HSE reviews on board vessels.
· Play an active role in crisis management and the continuous improvement of fleet procedures.
Monitor vessel certification and represent the vessels under management during external audits
Conduct system reviews (including safety committees and captains’ reviews)
Keep the HSE action plan up to date and monitor its progress
Monitor the progress of non-conformity reports
Facilitate safety and risk prevention on a daily basis on board ships by providing the necessary support to management (managers, captains and officers).
Bring safety issues to the attention of and alert senior management
Ensure reporting and monitoring of indicators (KPIs, safety roadmap, etc.)
Participate in QHSE consultancy assignments

Profile
Master (or equivalent STCW qualification), with experience in command on board
DPA and CSO certificates preferred (training available)
8–10 years’ shore-based experience in a Safety / Marine / HSEQ role would be an advantage
Good command of QHSE standards and in-depth knowledge of international regulations
Leadership, analytical skills and the ability to make decisions quickly, particularly in critical situations
Fluency in professional English, both spoken and written
Position to be filled as soon as possible
Remuneration commensurate with experience
