Basic training in High Voltage on board ships

Any seafarer serving as an officer in charge of an engineering watch, second engineer, or chief engineer on board commercial or pleasure vessels with a propulsion power of 750 kW or greater that are equipped with high-voltage electrical systems.

Hold a seafarer’s doctor’s certificate stating seaworthiness less than 12 months old

Basic high-voltage training for ships is a mandatory course designed for seafarers and technical personnel required to operate or monitor high-voltage electrical systems (exceeding 1,000 V AC or 1,500 V DC). It provides the essential skills needed to work safely on these systems, in compliance with STCW Convention requirements and French regulations.

16 hours spread over 2 days.

Design and operation characteristics of high voltage installations:
– Definition and interests presented by the HT
– Description of the installation and its main components (generator, switchboard, engine)

Hazard Assessment and Precautions for Operating Electrical Systems Over 1000 Volts:
– Risks of remote electrification, electric shock
– Effects of electrification, difference between low and high electrification
– Warning signals
– Risk of ignition and electric arc propagation

– Causes and Risks of Operating Electrical Circuits

Organization of electrical work precautions and safety procedures:
– IEC 600092-509
– Vocabulary of installations, personnel, organization of communication to zones, works, protections
