SEAWING

Project presentation

The SEAWING project involves developing an auxiliary traction system using a captive flying wing.

This system will be fully integrated into the ship’s control system to gain the acceptance and support of the crews through the total and safe automation of the wing’s release, flight and recovery, and also through the use of an attractive and simple man-machine interface for the sailors.

The SEAWING project addresses the following issues :

  • Reducing energy consumption by 20% ;
  • Development of a high-performance automated wing that can be integrated into a ship’s steering system, in particular using a graphical mission management system ;
  • Design of the system for integration on the ship’s deck ;
  • Development and industrial integration of the entire physical and piloting system.

Duration : June 2016 to end 2020.

In 2021, LDA’s Ville de Bordeaux will be equipped with the SEAWING system on the route linking the AIRBUS plants in Saint-Nazaire and Mobile in the United States.
