ELECTRONIC CHART DISPLAY AND INFORMATION SYSTEM ECDIS (ELECTRONIC CHART DISPLAY & INFORMATION SYSTEM)

PUBLIC CONCERNED

Any officer in charge of a navigational watch on the bridge of a commercial or pleasure vessel equipped with an electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS).

PREREQUISITES

  • Knowledge of navigation techniques and systems
  • Hold a seafarer’s medical certificate stating the seaworthiness of less than 12 months.

PROGRAMME

Theoretical training :

Presentation of the different electronic cards
Main types of ECDIS and display characteristics
Dangers of over-reliance on ECDIS
Risks and limitations of ECDIS in the integrated gateway
Factors affecting system performance and accuracy
Case studies illustrating accidents linked to inadequate ECDIS control.

Practical training :

Image adjustment and maintenance
Data display
Route planning
Road Watch
Alarm processing
Recording and management of travel data (logbook)
Correction of official data (update)
Practical use of ECDIS when connected to radar/ARPA
Practical use of ECDIS when connected to an AIS
System operation tests (open water, confined and DST navigation, anchorage, degraded mode, use of ECDIS RADAR and APRA functions).

Yes.
The course certificates are electronic and can be accessed directly on your seafarer’s portal as soon as you have successfully completed the course.
These certificates are valid for 12 months, during which time you can use the appropriate CERFA form to renew your certificates with Maritime Affairs.
