Advanced training for ships operating in polar waters

AUDIENCE

All Masters, Chief Officers and Officers in charge of a navigational watch on board ships operating in polar waters.

PREREQUISITES

  • Hold a basic training for ships operating in polar waters certificate.
  • Hold a Seafarers’ health service medical fitness certificate less than 12 months old.

OBJECTIVES

– Contribute to the safe operation of ships operating in polar waters.
– Monitor and ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
– Observe safe working practices, respond to emergency situations.
– Ensure compliance with pollution prevention regulations and prevent risks to the environment.

34 hours (from Day-1 1.30pm to Day-5 12.30pm)

PROGRAMME

Theoretical training :
– Voyage Planning and Operating in polar waters
– Facilities limitations
– Operating and ship handling in ice
– Safety of the ship’s crew and passengers

Practical training :

– Establishing a safe route and planning the crossing to avoid ice
– Altering the route from the planned crossing due to ice conditions
– Conditions required for safe entry into areas of ice or open water
– Avoiding the ship to be trapped in the ice and freeing the trapped ship
– Handling a ship in different ice concentrations and coverings
– Mooring and unmooring procedures in ice-covered waters
– Procedures for anchoring in ice

These attestations are valid for 12 months, during which time you can use the appropriate CERFA form to renew your certificates with Maritime Affairs.
