Multidisciplinary Officer Cadets Visit the Marseille Shipyard 🌊

Read the account by Candice, a third-year multidisciplinary officer cadet at the ENSM campus in Marseille, who has just returned from her visit to the Marseille shipyard!

“Thanks to the School, we had the opportunity to visit the Marseille Shipyard, and it was truly a great experience. It gave us a glimpse behind the scenes and helped us better understand everything that happens around a ship once it’s docked. We got to see the many different trades represented on-site and how varied their tasks are throughout the year.

During the tour, we explored the three dry docks that make up the shipyard and watched a ship being placed in dry dock. It was impressive to see how the docks were organized—almost like small, self-contained villages—with every trade represented. We also observed maintenance work being done on the lifeboats of a cruise ship, as well as an impressive welding project to fabricate chimney covers.

The most memorable moment was undoubtedly the surprise arrival of a ferry being placed in dry dock, right in front of us. It was truly impressive to witness it up close, and we were fortunate to be able to talk with the dock masters to learn even more about this phase in a ship’s life.”

The ENSM thanks the Marseille shipyard for its hospitality. 🤝
