Marine Engineering Students Aboard the Saint-Malo with Marcos Pagoto!

First-year students in the Marine Engineering program at the ENSM campus in Nantes, accompanied by their naval mechanics instructor Marcos Pagoto, had the opportunity to visit the Brittany Ferries ferry Saint-Malo.

“Nothing beats seeing real-world systems firsthand to understand how a ship operates. This onboard tour of the Saint-Malo allowed the students to explore the engine room equipment, propulsion systems, and the challenges of maritime operations.

The ship is equipped with a hybrid propulsion system combining liquefied natural gas (LNG) engines and electric propulsion. The optimal operation of this type of system depends not only on the technology itself but also on the operational decisions made on a daily basis by officers and marine engineers.

These visits are always a highlight of the program: they bring theoretical lessons to life and help students better envision their future careers.

“Thank you to the teams at Brittany Ferries for their warm welcome and for the time they dedicated to our students.” — Marcos Pagoto

The ENSM thanks Brittany Ferries for this opportunity!
