Haler au Boute’s Log: The Transatlantic Race Comes to a Close!

The ENSM is pleased to share photos of the Bel Espoir’s arrival in Brittany. This was an opportunity for Luc Varin, Director of the ENSM Saint-Malo campus; Christophe Marcillaud, Deputy Director; Christelle Nicolas, instructor; and Alexandra Petit, CESAME Planning Coordinator, to be present at Aber Wrac’h.

“Haler au Boute, led by Mario and Mimo, has reached the culmination of its project focused on knowledge transfer and inclusion.

By crossing the Atlantic Ocean aboard an incredible ship—going against the tide of the major technological advancements we’re seeing in the maritime world—the Haler au Boute team embarked on an adventure where the human element took center stage.

Through this sailing experience, we were able to inspire some people to continue sailing. Through our experiences, we were able to teach Casmira and Martin—the future captains of tomorrow—the importance of always being attuned to our maritime and human environment.

This closeness to the marine environment allowed us to contemplate the ocean’s riches by observing marine life—including whales, orcas, dolphins, and so many other marine animals.

Furthermore, during this transatlantic crossing, the Haler au Boute team was able to show—and even demonstrate—that inclusion has a perfectly natural place aboard a ship.

That said, we must admit that it doesn’t come without its challenges. While the team is fully capable of taking everyone’s specific needs into account—particularly Nicolas’s fatigue—the ocean takes center stage and sometimes imposes its own whims. It’s up to us to adapt.

And so, the Haler au Boute adventure came to a fantastic conclusion in Brittany, and everyone was quickly reunited with family and friends. We had the pleasure of being welcomed by Luc and Christophe, who didn’t hesitate to go out of their way to meet us at Aber Wrac’h.
