[Haler au Boute] – Different Perspectives: Students’ Voices 🌊

Read the students’ testimonials as they set out on this extraordinary Atlantic crossing!

ENSM is pleased to share with you the stages of the “Haler au Boute” adventure, a project led by two ENSM instructors, Nicolas Quentin and Jérôme Gaboriau, both former professional sailors. Two students are part of the crew and will be experiencing this project firsthand. Read their accounts as they set out on this extraordinary Atlantic crossing!

“For me, the Haler au Boute project is much more than just a crossing of the Atlantic. It’s an opportunity to experience a unique human adventure, push my limits, and learn from maritime enthusiasts. Sailing from Canada to France—my two home countries—symbolizes a dream I’ve been pursuing for a long time. This project also allows me to contribute to an initiative that makes sailing more accessible to everyone, a value that is particularly close to my heart.

Despite the distance, Zoom meetings and constant exchanges with the team are already immersing me in the logistics and spirit of the project. Every discussion fuels my enthusiasm and mentally prepares me for this extraordinary crossing.

I’m also actively involved in fundraising to make a tangible contribution to making this adventure a reality. And beyond all the preparation, part of me is already at sea, carried by the swell and the wind, imagining this Atlantic crossing! ”

- Casmira Leromain - Navigation student at the Institut maritime du Québec 🎙️

“For my part, I first heard about the Haler au Boute project through the ENSM student network. I’d say what immediately drew me in was the adventure! The legendary sporting adventure of crossing the Atlantic under sail, of course—especially on a three-masted ship and via the northern route! But also, and above all, the human adventure!

What’s more, thanks to the Mario et Mimo association, we’re not just setting out for ourselves but also to support two wonderful organizations: Team Vent Debout (France) and the Association Québécoise de Voile Adaptée (Quebec). I can’t wait to share the rest of the adventure with you! ”

- Martin, student Officer-in-Charge of Watch (International Bridge) / Captain 3000 at ENSM. 🎙️
