A Month at ENSM as an Intern: Read Garance’s Story!
Garance Fontaine, a sophomore at Sciences Po Paris on the Poitiers campus, spent a few weeks shadowing François Lambert, Director General of ENSM. It gave her the chance to immerse herself among the staff, faculty, and students who bring this one-of-a-kind school to life!
“A month ago, I was discovering ENSM—and just about all of its jargon. As a second-year student at Sciences Po Paris—Poitiers campus—I was getting ready to spend a month with the Director General, François Lambert, and to dive into a world I knew nothing about: that of maritime higher education.
In the early days, I found myself trying to decipher the differences between higher education jargon and maritime terminology. But Mr. Lambert, like the rest of the team, always took the time to explain things to me.
Meetings, travel, assigned tasks… I followed the—very busy—daily routine of a CEO who oversees an institution spread across four locations, guided by three core principles: transparency, active listening, and rigor.
Among the highlights I was fortunate enough to experience:
▪️Seafarers’ Day in Paris, marked by a meeting with Catherine Chabaud, Minister of the Sea and Fisheries
▪️The christening of the CMA CGM Notre-Dame
▪️A visit to the Plastic Odyssey vessel
▪️The symposium at the Sorbonne on offshore wind energy and biodiversity
▪️The graduation ceremonies for third-year students in Saint-Malo and for the OCQPI trainees based in Le Havre.
A month of new encounters, discoveries, and—thanks to a team that was always there for us—real professional growth.
A big thank you to the entire ENSM team for making us feel so welcome.” — Garance
All the best, Garance, and see you soon!
