RETRAINING – CERTIFICATE OF PROFICIENCY IN THE OPERATION OF LIFEBOATS AND LIFERAFTS
PUBLIC CONCERNED
To carry out duties on board commercial or pleasure vessels manned by a crew, the holder of a Certificat d’aptitude à l’exploitation des embarcations et radeaux de sauvetage (CAEERS) must prove that he/she has maintained this competence every 5 years.
PREREQUISITES
Admission to the course :
– Hold a valid CFBS certificate or a refresher training certificate for the “Individual Survival Techniques” module less than 12 months old.
– Be the holder of an on-board training certificate for the 5 years preceding entry to the course;
– Hold a certificate from the seafarers’ doctor stating that you are fit to sail, dated less than 12 months.
OBJECTIVES
To prove continued competence in accordance with the Order of 24 July 2013 on the revalidation of maritime vocational training qualifications and the STCW Manila Amendment Convention of 24 June 2010.

PROGRAMME
Theoretical lessons (2 hours)
Theoretical training consists of a refresher course to update knowledge, understanding and skills in the following areas: – Changes in regulations
– Changes in regulations;
– Changes in technology;
– Lifeboat and liferaft accidentology.
Practical exercises (6 hours)
The practical exercises consist of a refresher course in the skills and knowledge required to take responsibility for a lifeboat, liferaft or rescue boat during and after its launch. They include, for example, exercises in :
– Preparing and launching lifeboats and liferafts safely
– Use of loaded and unloaded release devices.

These certificates are valid for 12 months, during which time you can use the appropriate CERFA form to renew your certificates with Maritime Affairs.
