All masters, chief mates and officers in charge of the deck watch on board ships operating in polar waters.
PREREQUISITES
- Hold a Chief Officer or Master certificate on vessels of 500 gross tonnage or more.
- Hold a seafarer’s medical certificate stating the seaworthiness of less than 12 months.
OBJECTIVES
– To contribute to the safe operation of ships operating in polar waters.
– To monitor and ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
– Observe safe working practices, intervene in emergency situations.
– Ensure compliance with pollution prevention regulations and prevent risks to the environment.

– Tides and currents in ice
– Effect of wind and currents on ice
– Safety speed in the presence of ice and icebergs
– Safety measures during passage through the ice

These certificates are valid for 12 months, during which time you can use the appropriate CERFA form to renew your certificates with Maritime Affairs.
