Customs seaman – ship’s engineer
French Customs is recruiting!
Applications are open until 17 April for the 2026 recruitment exams for customs seafarers: naval engineer and watch officer.
⚓ Marine Engineer
As an inspector specialising in the maritime customs sector – marine engineer – you will be responsible for the general upkeep and maintenance of the customs service’s maritime assets. The vast majority of these roles are based on board a customs patrol boat or patrol vessel, either in mainland France or overseas.
You will therefore be responsible for:
• carrying out general and preventive maintenance of on-board equipment;
• conducting regular checks on mechanical and electrical equipment, and monitoring their operating parameters;
• carrying out, within the limits of your skills, any necessary repairs to this equipment;
• keeping on-board plans and documents up to date;
• taking part in operational missions, in particular customs inspections and checks on vessels.
The DNGCD (National Customs Coastguard Directorate) manages the customs service’s naval and air assets. These assets are deployed in mainland France and overseas territories on missions to monitor and combat trafficking.
