QHSE Manager

CHESS Maritime is a ship management company on a human scale, operating all types of vessels and offering a complete range of services from technical management to QHSE and crew management.
As part of the expansion of its teams, CHESS Maritime is recruiting a QHSE Manager.
Under the supervision of the Managing Director, and in close collaboration with the technical and crewing departments, you will be responsible for all regulatory aspects relating to the company and will play a central role in managing the safety, security and compliance of the vessels under management.

Main duties

· Assume the official responsibilities of MLC Officer, DPA and CSO while complying with international regulatory standards (ISM, ISPS, MLC).
· Ensure the validity of documents and regulatory compliance of vessels (certificates, emergency plans, ISPS procedures, SOPEP, etc.).
· Prepare, conduct and follow up on internal and external audits (administrations, classification societies, charterers).
· Manage incidents, coordinate investigations and maintain communication with P&I insurers.
· Supervise the training and integration of senior officers within the company’s Safety Management System (SMS).

· Organise and lead safety/security drills and HSE reviews on board ships.
· Actively participate in crisis management and the continuous improvement of fleet procedures.
Monitor ship certification and represent ships under management during external audits.
Conduct system reviews (including safety committees and captain reviews).
Keep the HSE action plan up to date and monitor its progress.
Monitor the progress of anomaly reports.
Promote safety and risk prevention on a daily basis on ships by providing the necessary support to managers (directors, captains and officers).
Inform and alert senior management about safety issues
Ensure reporting and monitoring of indicators (KPIs, safety roadmap, etc.)
Participate in QHSE consulting assignments

Profile

Captain (or equivalent STCW diploma), with command experience on board
DPA and CSO certificates preferred (training available)
8-10 years’ onshore experience in a Safety/Marine/HSEQ role would be an advantage
Good command of QHSE standards and in-depth knowledge of international regulations
Leadership, analytical skills and ability to make decisions quickly, especially in critical situations
Fluency in professional English, both spoken and written
