Socatra, France’s only oil tanker operator, is currently growing, with plans to renew and expand its fleet to 17 chemical tankers (from 8,000 tons to 50,000 tons) by 2027.

A family-owned shipping company on a human scale, always on the lookout for innovation and mindful of its impact, Socatra has been a pioneer in sail propulsion with the installation of rotor masts on the Alcyone, a ship supplying Polynesia, and will have made nearly 50% of its fleet green within a year with the delivery of new hybrid and dual fuel/methanol-powered ships.

With a view to modernizing and expanding our fleet, we are looking for First Officers with matrix experience on ships classified as oil tankers/chemical tankers.

Job responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Captain, your responsibilities will include the following:
Overseeing cargo operations (loading, unloading, washing);
Planning and monitoring the maintenance and operation of equipment, materials and general ship maintenance;
Planning and monitoring the maintenance and operation of safety and survival equipment (lifeboats, firefighting equipment, regulatory drills);
Assisting the Captain in preparing and conducting various inspections (vettings, audits, etc.);
Supervising and training the crew;
Ensuring navigation safety: bridge watch.

Required profile:

Experience as a Second Captain with proven track record on oil and chemical tankers;
Basic training certificate for oil tankers and chemical tankers;
Advanced training certificate for oil tankers;
Advanced training certificate for chemical tankers;
Fluency in spoken and written English.
