OBJECTIVES

  • • Understand the constitution of the civil navy
    • Understand the executive and control structure of the French merchant navy
    • Understand the role of each person on board
    • Understand maritime training and its rules
    • Understand the constitution of the crew and its rules
    • Understand the training and certification required for crew serving on ships owned by the shipping company
    • Understand the prerogatives of the French flag
    • Understand the shipowner’s responsibilities towards the crew
    • Control of certificates and licences by the PSC
    • The PSC’s powers in relation to certificate issues.
    • The PSC and exemptions
