Day 1 morning – 4:00 a.m.:

Identify the parties involved in a maritime shipment.

Understand the legal framework of a maritime shipment: differences between chartering and transport contracts, responsibilities of the parties, etc.

 

-Content:

The role of the various parties involved: shipper, carrier, shipowner, stevedore, freight forwarder, consignee, ship manager, insurers, etc.

Legal basis: Charters/transport contracts/responsibilities

 

Day 1 afternoon – 4 hours:

-Expected skills:

Understand the legal and commercial implications of a maritime transport operation.

 

-Content:

Study of a charter party: NOR, bill of lading, laydays, demurrage, etc.

Special case of assistance.

Special case of general average.

Seizure of ships.

Role of dispute resolution bodies.
