Marie MICHEL TRITARELLI, new Director of Training and Research

Her background

The French Maritime Academy (ENSM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Marie MICHEL-TRITARELLI as Director of Training and Research at ENSM, effective March 2, 2026.

A graduate of the ENMM in Le Havre with a DESMM (postgraduate degree in merchant shipping), Marie MICHEL-TRITARELLI has built a career firmly rooted in the operational realities of the maritime sector, before moving into management and training roles.

She began her career as a multi-skilled officer at Bourbon, in the offshore sector, aboard highly technical vessels. She joined Exxon Mobil’s marine department in Angola as Local HSE Manager in Soyo, working in environments subject to high standards and high risk exposure for crews. She joined Lassarat in 2012, where she served as Export QHSE Coordinator, responsible for overseeing QHSE procedures for subsidiaries in Congo and Nigeria, deploying collaborative tools, and aligning business practices with international certifications. In 2016, she took over as head of the Marine Department, with particular responsibility for the fitting out and operation of an MPSV vessel. These roles are part of a fourteen-year career in the offshore oil sector in Africa, in highly demanding professional contexts characterized by challenging environments, fierce competition, strong corporate cultures, and processes focused on continuous improvement.

In 2022, she began sharing her knowledge as a multi-skilled trainer at the Anita Conti Maritime Vocational High School, where she draws on her operational and managerial experience to support maritime vocational training.
As the navigation simulator supervisor and in support of educational coordination, she helped structure and develop the training program, notably by creating a Captain 500 training course to meet the evolving needs of continuing education.

On March 2, 2026, she will take up her new position as Director of Training and Research at ENSM. Marie MICHEL-TRITARELLI will oversee the educational and scientific strategy for training programs in close collaboration with the Director General. She will ensure their quality and compliance with national and international standards, lead the teaching staff, and structure the development of research to support training programs and enhance the School’s reputation.

Her vision

“I feel a deep attachment to ENSM and great gratitude towards the faculty, who helped me turn a dream I had from a very young age—to become a sailor—into a rich professional and personal adventure. My years at sea shaped my career around fundamental values: a sense of community, commitment, and openness to the world.

My vision is part of a clear ambition: to strengthen the link between training, research, and the realities of the maritime sector. Research must be fully integrated into the educational project, as a natural extension of the knowledge, values, and excellence promoted by the School in its national mission, in the service of training, innovation, and the development of the skills of tomorrow’s officers and engineers. I also believe in cross-disciplinary collaboration as a lever for consistency and efficiency: between disciplines, between campuses, between teachers, researchers, and professionals. The challenges of decarbonization, cybersecurity, and the attractiveness of the profession call for cross-disciplinary approaches, shared projects, and a common vision.

As Anita Conti reminded us, “At sea, everyone depends on everyone else.” It is in this spirit, and in line with the momentum already generated by the teams and management, that I am placing myself at the service of ENSM, its students, teachers, staff, institutions, and stakeholders in the maritime world to collectively continue and amplify the development of a school that shines and innovates, promoting a culture of high standards, responsibility, and commitment to the sea and those who serve it.”
