You hold a five-year higher education degree.
You have professional experience as a merchant navy officer on board a ship or in a position of responsibility in the maritime sector (shipping, classification society, vetting, port operations, etc.), but this is not a prerequisite.
And you want to contribute to France’s maritime influence by ensuring compliance with international conventions and national regulations on safety, pollution prevention, security and social certification.

Our ministries recruit state engineers on the basis of their qualifications to work as ship safety inspectors.
As civil service executives, ship safety inspectors work in Ship Safety Centres and interregional maritime directorates located along the French coastline, both in mainland France and overseas. The positions they may hold depend on the level of expertise assigned by accreditation or obtained during their career development, namely: inspector at a Ship Safety Centre, centre manager, regional safety commission coordinator or positions in central administration.

You will be pre-selected by a panel based on your qualifications, your work (if applicable) and your professional experience.
You will then have an interview with a panel, which will select the most suitable candidates, within the limits of the number of positions available.
The positions may be located anywhere along the coast. Their exact location is not yet known.

A webinar will be held on Wednesday 10 December 2025 at 1 p.m. to give you the keys to success.
