The coast director appoints the head of the naval maintenance unit from among the RTNs that comprise it.
The members of the naval maintenance unit work together to ensure continuity of service throughout the year.
The position requires proven interpersonal skills, which are essential given the need to coordinate a network of chief engineers spread across the entire Mediterranean coast. As such, a high level of availability is expected, given the frequent travel from Port-Vendres to Nice on the coast and to Bastia and Ajaccio in Corsica.

Certain tasks may be carried out remotely under an agreement between the job holder and the DNGCD.
