Project Manager – Naval Architect

Company Profile

Founded in Québec City in 1987, Concept Naval is a firm specialising in naval architecture and maritime engineering that has been supporting ship operators, shipyards and various stakeholders in the maritime industry for nearly 40 years!

Our team of around twenty professionals comprises naval architects, engineers and technicians with complementary areas of expertise. This company size fosters close working relationships, collaboration and knowledge-sharing amongst colleagues, whilst enabling everyone to play a hands-on role in projects and develop a diverse range of expertise.

Our expertise covers the entire lifecycle of a maritime project, from preliminary design through to detailed engineering, including the construction, modification, modernisation and repair of ships and floating structures. With over 500 projects completed, our team works on assignments across Canada, in partnership with clients, shipyards and collaborators both here and around the world.

Concept Naval has, in particular, been commissioned to design two new all-electric ferries for the City of Toronto, as well as having contributed to ferry projects for the Société des traversiers du Québec, the electrification of the Marilyn Bell I, and various projects involving research vessels, tugs and specialised workboats. These varied projects demonstrate the breadth of our expertise and our commitment to contributing to the evolution of the maritime industry, particularly through electrification, the reduction of GHG emissions and the integration of new technologies.

Corporate Culture

At Concept Naval, our culture is built on collaboration, a close-knit team spirit and a shared passion for the maritime sector. We are an approachable and committed team, where everyone can make a tangible contribution to projects, share their ideas and develop their expertise through a variety of challenging assignments.

We also place great importance on enjoying working together and building relationships beyond individual projects. Team lunches, after-work drinks, sporting activities, outings and corporate events all provide opportunities to get together in a friendly atmosphere. This culture is also reflected in the way we work, with flexibility, autonomy and an environment that encourages open communication. In Québec City, our team enjoys an exceptional location on the banks of the St Lawrence River, in the heart of Old Québec, right at the foot of the Château Frontenac!

• Supervise the preparation of plans and specifications produced by draughtsmen and technicians.

• Supervise and contribute to the design of propulsion systems, structural components, pipework, HVAC and on-board services.

• Draft analysis reports, utilising the tools required to assess the hydrodynamic performance of vessels (seakeeping, manoeuvrability, resistance to forward motion, impact).

• Assess vessel stability (study of hull forms and inclining tests) and approve the stability certificates.

• Resolve technical issues requiring research and in-depth analysis.

• Manage all stages of projects, ensuring deadlines are met and keeping the budget under control.
