SHIP HANDLING – ON SIMULATOR

Officers in charge of navigational watch at the management level.

REQUIRED BACKGROUND

Persons holding a Chief Mate Certificate of Competency

OBJECTIVE

Training in ship manoeuvring in port and restricted waters with or without tug assistance, in all conditions of wind and currents, on all types of ships (one or two shaft lines, fixed pitch propeller or controllable pitch propeller. Slow speed diesel, medium speed, azimuthal thrusters…)
The training courses are developed on request for a specific type of ship and specific areas.

Ship manoeuvring Theory:
– Stability
– Operating ships fitted with one shaft and fixed pitch propeller, driven by a slow speed diesel engine, or two shafts with controllable pitch propeller driven by a medium speed diesel or powered by azimuthal thrusters
– Diameter of turning circle
– Stopping distances
Manoeuvring in port with or without wind or currents
Manoeuvring in shallow waters
Manoeuvring in rivers
Interactions between passing ships
Embankment effect of manoeuvring
Manoeuvring with tugs
Manoeuvring in locks
Open anchorage or mooring
Ship to ship
Human element and manoeuvring : cooperation with the maritime pilot
