About CargoKite
CargoKite is developing a novel ship to transport freight more flexibly, with lower emissions and at lower costs than today. Our work combines the use of large traction kites and autonomy / remote-control technologies.
We operate a 26 m commercial test vessel from Lisbon for technical trials and demonstrations. This is not a transport or crew-transfer role, but a command position on an experimental vessel.

The Role
We are looking for a Captain / Master to take full command of our test vessel. You are the onboard authority for safety, navigation, and go/no-go decisions, working closely with engineering and operations teams.
This is a hands-on role that requires strong seamanship, clear authority, a certain degree of mechanical and systems knowledge, and the ability to operate confidently in non standard and evolving test scenarios.

Key Responsibilities
• Act as Master of the vessel, with full command authority
• Safely conduct coastal, single-day missions
• Take and enforce go / no-go decisions based on weather and risk
• Maintain the vessel’s operational readiness and condition between missions, supported by one onboard crew member and local service providers
• Execute experimental test missions (kite propulsion, remote / assisted control) in coordination with engineering teams
• Manage onboard crew and maintain a strong safety culture
• Ensure required documentation, logs, and basic compliance

Required Qualifications
Mandatory
• Valid commercial Master qualification, such as: STCW Master <200 GT (near-coastal or equivalent) or french Capitaine 200
• Commercial experience as Master or acting Master
• Fluent English (Portuguese a bonus)
Preferred
• Experience on workboats, test vessels, or modified / experimental vessels
• Experience working with engineers or technical teams
