# Recruitment of deck and engine officers – Compagnie Française Maritime de Tahiti

## Company

Founded in 1932, the Compagnie Française Maritime de Tahiti (CFMT) is the owner of the TAPORO vessels, based in Papeete (French Polynesia). It serves the Society Islands, Tuamotu Islands, Marquesas Islands and Gambier Islands, and currently operates three mixed-use vessels. For over 75 years, CFMT has contributed to the development of the islands by constructing buildings such as hotels, port infrastructure, roads, bridges, airstrips, churches, temples, secondary schools, etc.

## Recruitment campaign

CFMT is launching an ongoing recruitment campaign to recruit crew members as required. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis, and employment offers are made according to the availability of vessels and candidates.

## Vacancies

### Bridge Department
– **Second Officer** – Second Officer’s Certificate 3000 (applications from holders of the Chief Bridge Watch Officer’s Certificate or the Captain’s Certificate 500 will also be considered). ENIM contract in category 12.
– **Deck Lieutenant** – Bridge Watch Officer Certificate 3000 (applications from holders of the Captain’s Certificate 500 will also be considered). ENIM contract in the 10th category.

### Engine Department
– **Second Engineer** – Second Engineer’s Certificate 3000 kW (applications from holders of the Chief Engineer’s Watch Officer Certificate will also be considered). ENIM contract in the 12th category.
– **Engine Lieutenant** – Chief Engineer Officer Certificate (applications from holders of the 750 kW certificate will also be considered). ENIM contract in the 10th category.

## Required qualifications

– Certificate corresponding to the position sought
– Up-to-date STCW certificates
– Up-to-date seafarer’s medical certificate

## Responsibilities on board

### Second Officer
– Assists the captain and stands bridge watch
– Ensures the crew are familiar with equipment and procedures
– Supervises the loading and unloading of cargo, as well as the embarkation and disembarkation of passengers (supervision via the gangway)
– Draws up the loading plan and forwards it to the captain
– Conducts the weekly inspection of the ship’s fittings and completes the waste log
– Keeps the PPE inventory up to date
– Issues permits for high-risk work in the deck department
– Organises safety drills and records the reports
– Supervises maintenance work in the deck department and monitors the deck preventive maintenance schedule under the captain’s supervision

### Deck Lieutenant
– Assists the captain and the first mate, and stands bridge watch
– Keeps nautical documents (publications & charts) and medical supplies up to date
– Conducts passenger safety briefings and checks the passenger list on boarding
– Issues permits for high-risk work in the deck department
– Monitors and updates the deck preventive maintenance schedule under the supervision of the second officer

### Second Engineer
– Assists the Chief Engineer
– Ensures the crew is familiar with the equipment and procedures
– Oversees bunkering and discharge operations
– Issues permits for high-risk work in the engine department
– Oversees maintenance work in the engine department and monitors the preventive maintenance schedule for the engines under the supervision of the Chief Engineer

### Engine Officer
– Assists the Chief Engineer and Second Engineer, and covers the engine watch
– Issues permits for high-risk work in the engine department
– Monitors and updates the engine preventive maintenance schedule under the supervision of the Second Engineer

## Contract

– Fixed-term contract (ENIM) (French flag)
– 12th category for the positions of Second Mate and Second Engineer
– 10th category for the positions of Deck Lieutenant and Engine Lieutenant
– 6 days’ leave accrued per month worked in accordance with the local collective agreement
