Job Description
DESGAGNÉS MARINE PETRO INC. is recruiting for the position of Chief Officer for its fleet of tankers and LNG vessels, to operate on the Great Lakes, in Eastern Canada and in the Canadian Arctic.
The Chief Officer reports directly to the Master. Their responsibilities include, amongst other things, operations relating to the vessel’s cargo (loading/unloading) as well as ballasting and deballasting operations (stability).
Unionised position: Yes
Variable (40 hours per week). This is an on-board position, so hours will vary according to the vessel’s operational requirements. For tankers, the fleet operates year-round on a 5-weeks-at-sea/5-weeks-ashore rota. Engine officers are therefore required to work approximately 180 days spread over the year.

French: Intermediate
English: Intermediate
Education
Higher education in maritime navigation, together with the required STCW certificates and the First Officer’s certificate.
Technical college studies, College Diploma in Navigation
Level of experience
Intermediate (2–9 years), more than 2 years’ experience as a navigation officer and a MINIMUM of 1 year’s seagoing service as First Officer on oil tankers.
