Ship theory (definition and general theorems):
– Archimedes’ principle ; displacement
– Definitions of perpendiculars, drafts, trim
– Euler’s theorem
– Surface and F curves; metacentre differential longitudinal
– Documents : study and uses of hydrostatic tables available to a ship’s captain
– Brief description of a ship
– Hull stresses
Study to determine a ship’s displacement by surveying drafts:
– Determining a draft ; drafts corrections
– Scale correction
– Hogging or sagging correction
– Exercises
Calculation of the center of gravity displacement and position from hydrostatic tables with a non zero difference:
– Cases when drafts differences are important
– Calculation of the overall loaded or unloaded weight
– Uncertainty of results, due to uncertainty of drafts and water density
– Application exercises
