The ENSM’s meetings (2015)

CONFERENCES

Themes for the year 2015:

Innovation, reliability, environmental and energy efficiency. Situation and evolution?

  • Energy extraction

  • Optimization of the existing ships

  • Atypical transports and navigations

  • Port facilities

Technological innovations, economy growth and environmental improvements are at the heart of the conferences in the large amphitheatre on Thursday 9 April (afternoon) and Friday 10 April 2015 in Marseille
Reviews of the conferences :

1
) Lloyd review
(Friday.06/03/20153.55pm) :

DimitrisArgyros, main consultant at Lloyd Register, will present the recent report on the wind- assisted propulsion technology, including:

present state of the technology

statutory and commercial factors

performance and safety challenges

obstacles to the adoption of the technology

2
) GPMM
review (Tues.17/03/201511.36am) :

The GPMM is a non-specialist port dealing with all types of freight or passenger traffics”.

As far as traffic is concerned, the GPMM is the first French port and, in 2013, was the sixth in Europe with a global tonnage around 80 million tonnes.

The fall of the port of Marseille from the fifth to the sixth ranking is essentially due to the drastic collapse of the crude oil traffic, but must not neglect the profits of the market shares of some sectors and activities (between 2011 and 2013: a 16% increase of container traffic and a 3% profit of the cruise market share).

Because of the crisis and environmental challenges, the GPMM has decided to react energetically to welcome new activities, compatible with existing activities but also with the natural and urban environment of its territory through projects which will be presented at the conference.

3
) Presentationof navigation in the ice
:

The climatic changes have led to the thawing of the ice field which allows ships to sail through between June and October. Will the maritime routes of the north east along the Russian coastline and the North-West passage off Canada be the new maritime routes between Asia and Northern Europe or simply access routes to the exploitation of the local energy resources that are thought to be huge?
