On Wednesday 27th May, a group of students from Nantes (5th year and Chief Engineers) visited the shipyard STX Europe in Saint-Nazaire. Jean-Louis Piquemal (former student), in charge of operational development, presented the different processes for the design, the building and the assembly of cruise liners.
A visit of the site and the workshop “panels-plans” gave the students the opportunity to understand the constraints linked to the building of such ships. One of the biggest cruise liners in the world,” Harmony of the Seas”, ordered by RCCL, is in the process of being assembled. Set in the long dock, the ship can be seen from Saint-Nazaire’s bridge. It will be afloat in June and delivered in June 2016.
