A career as a Deck Officer
The French Maritime Academy (ENSM) delivers the Officer of a Navigational Watch program in its Le Havre campus.
An Officer in charge of a Navigational Watch has the following duties:
– Ensuring safe navigation
– Complying with the international regulations to prevent collisions at sea
– Participation to commercial operations when the vessel is berthed (loading)
– Preparing the voyage passage plan
– Participation to medical care management on board
The Officer in charge of the navigational Watch on commercial ships is recruited as a Deck officer. This is a civilian seafarer position in the Merchant Navy. Deck officers report to the ship Master.
The Officer in charge of a navigational Watch can work on ships under all flags, for all types of voyages, with multicultural crews onboard. Qualified students usually aim for careers in the cruise or yachting industry and offshore industry.
After a 12-month navigation period, the Officer in charge of navigational Watch may carry on with a program taught at the ENSM to obtain the Master Unlimited Diploma.

Admission: Post Baccalaureate, on individual application and interview
26 places in 2022, registration on Parcoursup
Duration: 3 years
Campus: Le Havre
Tuition fees (2022): 2450€ for EU nationals, 8000€ for non-EU nationals.
Program Structure

The program lasts three years and ends with a Diploma. A significant part of the content is taught in English.
Registration for the program Officer of navigational Watch / Master 3000 are done on Parcoursup.
Seafarers shall comply with health and fitness criteria, set on a global level.
Read here the decree on medical fitness for seafarers on commercial or fishing vessels and yachts.
A medical appointment with a specialized seafarers Doctor is required only for students who obtain their diploma.
