It is said that the overseas departments turn their back on the sea. The sea is indeed a wonderful sight, a vast playground, but it is also a source of employment. If military jobs are well-known, it is important to acknowledge that the Merchant marine offers great careers for senior managers and interesting retraining opportunities ashore.
The French Maritime Academy (ENSM), which trains officers of the Merchant marine, wishes overseas high school pupils to reconcile with the sea and to make it their professional environment.
It is not about selling dreams but about offering training courses which lead to jobs in the maritime and paramaritime sectors.
The French Maritime Academy (ENSM) and the maritime Overseas Departments Clusters are partners to recreate maritime vocations and help the young overseas with the different steps from applying to settling in. The Clusters are in charge of asking for the opening of centres for the competitive entrance exam in the Overseas Departments and Territories. They promote the training in the different fairs and forums, and assist the candidates with the administrative applications.
