Awa Sam-Lefebvre is a PhD in law and a specialist in maritime safety and security issues. She joined the Ecole Nationale Supérieure Maritime (ENSM) as a researcher in charge of maritime safety and security courses in 2012. It carries out research activities, manages national and international projects and works with industry and/or administrations on regulatory and legislative projects, such as regulations on autonomous ships or the protection of so-called traditional ships in terms of security.

 

At the national level, Awa Sam Lefebvre participated in the work of the group in 2013

which led to the implementation of regulations on private teams on board French ships in 2014.

At the international level, his expertise on issues related to autonomous ship/drone drones justified his integration as a member of the French delegation for the work at the IMO on these issues. She is currently co-leading the expertise group of the maritime cluster “regulations for autonomous ships” in France, and is involved in the preparatory work of the MSC committee of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

She is responsible for continuing safety training at the ENSM Nantes site and also teaches at the Ecole Nationale de la Sécurité et de l’Administration de la Mer (ENSAM) and at the Ecole Centrale de Nantes (ECN).

In recent years, Awa Sam Lefebvre has published numerous refereed and refereed articles and contributed to books on maritime law and safety. Since 2012, she has been a permanent researcher at the Centre for Maritime and Ocean Law at the University of Nantes.

His current work focuses on the themes of risks, innovations and regulations related to the future/innovative ship.

In addition to her professional activities, she contributes to her knowledge of the sea through navigation and travel with her family and is involved in associations promoting maritime activities such as the Comité Maritime International des jeunes (CMI) and the Association française de droit maritime (AFDM).
